Exhibition Theme: Layers Between
Layers Between presents new photographic works by Lars Engelgaar and Ninna Bohn Pedersen. The exhibition juxtaposes Engelgaar's experimental photographs with Bohn Pedersen's spatial collages on acrylic. Using varying technologies and materials, the exhibition focuses on the production of reality and our interconnectedness within the world.
Bohn Pedersen and Engelgaar's works utilise a comparable visual language of images and layers, but with very different approaches to the medium of photography. Both artists work with immediate registrations of reality, transforming and manipulating it through the lens or in the interplay of the layered compositions.
They operate within an experimental laboratory setting towards new insights to create works that illuminate the monumental in the minutiae. These are attempts to concretise that which often lies between the lines, that which both separates and connects us at the same time: Sensations, dissolved forms and figures - the recognisable becomes strange and transformed.
For the exhibition, Engelgaar works digitally with in-camera techniques, using multiple exposures in an exploratory approach, where technique and control are reduced to intuitive and immediate captures. Motifs and objects from the surrounding environment are gathered, and through multiple exposures, motifs emerge that are both familiar and at the same time hard to understand, as something that doesn’t quite match up.
With a focus on minimal resource impact, methods such as plant-based development processes and organic print materials are applied.
Bohn Pedersen works with UV-print on acrylic. Photographs from the artist's everyday life and proximity, arranged in physical collages that aim to reveal the bonds that connect us and the ease with which existence emerges and dissolves over time. These are the quiet truths of fleeting moments.
Layers Between reflects on the process of artistic creation and the world and reality that art is a part of and arises in. The exhibition focuses on the interplay between the works and the connections that are created fleetingly in the moment - inside the works, between the works and in the people who see them.
